Joshua A. Barocas, MD

Dr. Barocas is an Associate Professor of Medicine and infectious diseases physician at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He leads an interdisciplinary research program that is aimed at improving health outcomes for patients with infectious diseases, substance use disorders, and other vulnerable populations. He uses innovative methods to help understand the impact of and improve upon policies that affect people who use drugs. He has been the recipient of several research awards including a NIDA Avenir Award and the AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Faculty Fellowship Award. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles including in leading journals such as NEJM, JAMA Internal Medicine, AJPH, Addiction, and Annals of Internal Medicine. His work has been widely cited in the media, including the Boston Globe, U.S. News and World Report, and NPR.
